Shipping Update: Rate Hike on Far‑East to Europe & Mediterranean Routes Starting Oct 19

Published: Oct 15, 2026

Major shipping carriers including Maersk, MSC, CMA‑CGM and Hapag‑Lloyd have jointly announced a new General Rate Increase (GRI), effective Oct 19, 2026, based on vessel ETD.

This freight adjustment covers Far‑East shipping lanes to North Europe, Mediterranean, Black Sea and North Africa. It applies to 20GP / 40HQ dry cargo containers, as well as reefer and special containers. The rate change includes base ocean freight, bunker surcharge, EU ETS carbon surcharge, Suez Canal fee, piracy risk surcharge and other miscellaneous charges across the whole logistics chain.

Nevertheless, market fundamentals remain relatively weak. The official FAK published rates show a clear gap against real‑world transaction prices. This round of price push is mainly driven by market expectations of capacity release after Suez Canal resumption. The sustainability of this freight increase still remains uncertain.
